Toothbrush Protectionism Extended for Three More Year by Presidential Decree

Domestic toothbrush producers played the nationalist card: 

"Turkish toothbrushes for Turkish kids!"

The "ek mali yükümlülükler" (tariffs) applied to imports of 

toothbrushes (!) have been extended for three more years.  The 

"Presidential Decision on the Implementation of Protective Measures 

Regarding  Imports of Toothbrushes"  has been published in the 

Official Gazette.

According to the decision, domestic producers of toothbrushes asked

for the protections against the import of foreign toothbrushes to be

extended.  So after a preliminary investigation was concluded a more

thorough examination was opened with regard to protections against

imports.

As a result, the existing protections have been extended for three more

years and in the first year the tariff will be $0.19, in the second year

$0.17, and in the third year $0.15.
