Hit-Man Falls in Love With Victim, Kills Her Anyway

                   They both knew this would not end well.

In Kartal, Istanbul, elementary school teacher İlkay Sivaslı fell into
depression over a failed love affair and hired a hit-man over the
internet for 5,000 TL (about $850) to kill her (!).  Hit-man Tanju
Doğan, though, fell in love with İlkay hanım over the course of 3
weeks. Nevertheless, in the end he killed her.

İlkay hanım was teaching at the Kartal Atatürk Elementary
School and had been a teacher for 19 years.  For the past 10 years
she had been having an affair with I.E., who borrowed a large amount
of money from İlkay hanım but did not pay it back.  With the
relationship going nowhere, İlkay hanım decided to kill herself but
was unsuccessful, so she hired Doğan to do the deed.

İlkay hanım told Doğan that she did not want to be killed while
with her friends but even when the right moment arose, Doğan
could not bring himself to shoot her.  İlkay called him several times
about this but Doğan admitted that he had fallen in love with her.
Nevertheless, on 21 April Doğan went to İlkay hanım's home in
Pendik and began to strangle her.  When he saw her struggling,
though, he couldn't go through with the murder.

At this point, Doğan pulled out a gun and shot İlkay hanım.  Then
he called for an ambulance (!).  İlkay hanım died at the hospital
and Doğan fled from there.  Police checked security camera footage,
identified Doğan and arrested him in Adana.  Doğan was brought
back to Istanbul, where he explained that "she didn't want me to
kill her while she was with her friends.  I tried for 24 days to kill her
but I fell in love with her.  But when she insisted that I kill her I
didn't want to disappoint her so I did."
