Sweet hitchhiker
A kitten that survived the 700-kilometer trip from Istanbul to
Antalya, stuck in the car's motor compartment (!), was finally freed
after two hours of effort in Antalya. The car's driver knew the
kitten was stuck in the motor but didn't care (!).
People in the Güsru neighborhood in Konyaaltı, Antalya, heard
the yelps of the kitten coming from the car with Istanbul license
plates last evening and alerted local animal-lover Ulaş Kaşıkçı,
who rescued the kitten, now named 'İstanbul', after two hours
of effort. Kaşıkçı talked with the car's owner, who drove from
Istanbul to Antalya and was aware of the kitten's plight, but
was uninterested.
Veterinerian Kübra Çokçevik estimated that 'İstanbul' is about
45 days old and she added that the kitten is recovering nicely
after its ordeal. 'İstanbul' will remain at the veterinary clinic
until a home can be found.
