Remote Australian Islands of 105 Years Ago Now a Plastic Paradise

//Ed. Note: In November 1914 the German ship Emden 
was destroyed by an Australian cruiser at Direction
Island in the Keeling group of islands in the far eastern
Indian Ocean. The ship's crew was taken prisoner by
the Australians and British but an Emden landing party
managed to avoid capture and, in fact, made it back to
Germany, with some Turkish help in the Arabian
peninsula:
