Çeken got the idea from this guy.
The day before yesterday, police conducted raids in 7 provinces against
the Sarallar organized crime gang and determined that gang leader
Ümit Saral's lawyer Tolgahan Çeken had smuggled a cellphone under
a fake cast on his arm to Saral in prison. But Çeken had tested the
phone by linking it to his own phone line and was later identified as
the smuggler.
Over the past 15 years, Saral has been involved in many crimes, such
as drug smuggling, weapons trading, extortion and looting, with his
gang in the Güngören and Bahçelievler sections of Istanbul. Most
recently, Saral was arrested two years ago for giving orders to kill 7
members of the Şirinler gang, his former partners-in-crime.
A few months ago Saral told Çeken to smuggle a cellphone to him
in prison. As a lawyer, Çeken was able to meet with his client Saral
at the prison. He wrapped the cellphone in naylon and had a fake
cast put on his arm to hide the phone from the X-ray machine and
passed it to Saral. But Saral called one of his gang members, whose
phone was already being monitored by the police (!), and the jig was up.
Police examined Saral's phone and saw that the initial link had been
to Çeken's phone so they knew how Saral obtained the phone.
