Hacca ve umreye gitmem çünkü...
Singer Leman Sam. Her would-be-pilgrimage money will stay in her own pocket, thank you very much

The night before last singer Leman Sam took the stage in
Edirne and afterwards she answered reporters' questions.
Explaining that she hasn't gone on the pilgrimage to Mecca,
Sam asserted that the Arabs have made the pilgrimage a
profit-making business. Sam added that she's not opposed
to making the pilgrimage but rather to the commercialization
of it.

"The Arabs have made this a for-profit activity. I'm against
this. Our country is not a rich country anyway so going there
and giving money to the Arabs is contrary to me. They've
built big hotels at the pilgrimage site and the ones with a view
of the Kaaba at Mecca are quite expensive. People go there
with fancy clothes and jewelry to impress one another. It
seems the whole thing has abandoned religious belief. I'm
against all of this."

Sam went on to say that "If someone were to ask me if I'd
gone on the pilgrimage I'd say no. Everyone has their own
unique religious beliefs. I won't go and give up money to the
Arabs."

                                                          Well, it's about time!

A group of atheists in Turkey got fed up with news and
disinformation coming out regarding atheism among the public
so they established their own organization.  Their goal is to provide
legal support to atheists who have been unjustly treated and
to better explain themselves to the public.

Founding member Selin Ozkohen and Acting PresidentTolga
Inci stated that "we have no intention whatsoever of being
missionaries."  The organization has 11 founding members and
a 90-person support group.
