Istanbul police mounted an operation against a gang that was
forcing Syrian children to beg on the streets. The gang 'rented'
the children from their families in Aleppo, Syria, for 1,000 TL
(about $350) per month.
In the police operation 36 children and 57 others were rescued,
while 12 gang members were taken into custody. About 5 months
ago police saw that Syrian children were begging on the street
and over the course of time police determined that the children
were being 'rented' from their families in Aleppo.
What to do on a day off??
After determining two addresses in Istanbul, police raided both
premises in Küçükçekmece, Istanbul, and rescued 36 children and
57 others. The 12 suspects, accused of torturing and forcing the
children to beg, were caught red-handed.
