The airplane sequel to...
The opening of the new Istanbul Airport and the closure of Atatürk
Airport to commercial flights, has left a number of abandoned,
sequestered and old-age airplanes in a corner of Atatürk. Among the
17 planes stranded at the "Y" apron are some foreign ones, including
a Russian Antonov An-12-type aircraft belonging to CAT Kargo.
Besides some large airplanes like the An-12 and an unuseable Airbus
A300, there is a Cessna 340A flown by UPS until the company closed
its internal Turkey air operations. The Civil Air General Directorate
(SHGM) has issued a directive about the removal of the planes from
Atatürk.
