Filming has begun in the historic peninsula of Istanbul
for the movie 'Inferno', adapted from the Dan Brown novel.
Fearing that the action sequences that occur in the Yerebatan
Sarnıcı (Basilica Cistern) might damage the historic cistern,
the scenes will be filmed on a platform that replicates the
cistern in Budapest, Hungary.

The adventure in the last novel of the book series that broke
sales records all over the world, continues in Istanbul. Dan
Brown did research for the film scenes in Istanbul. The
story begins in Florence, Italy, where an evil scientist plans
to wipe out mankind and the plot's puzzle is solved in Istanbul.

Dan Brown gave the last 100 pages of the novel 'Inferno' to
describe the Istanbul action and he used the Yerebatan Sarnıcı
as one of the important sites for the story. The secret of the
novel is solved in Ayasofya Church-Mosque and the Yerebatan
Sarnıcı.

Yerebatan Sarnıcı is already a very popular spot for tourists
coming to Istanbul but after the novel 'Inferno' was published
the number of visitors to the site doubled  in summer months.
