The Istanbul financial crimes office has launched new
operations against counterfeiters. An organized gang that has
started to use children is spreading counterfeit 100 TL notes
on the market for 10 TL.

People have been shocked to see an 11 or 12 year-old boy
selling fake money from a cardboard stand at the Galata
Bridge underpass in Eminönü, one of the busiest spots in
Istanbul and a popular venue for tourists.  The 'money' -
Turkish Lira and Euros - is stacked in packets on top of
the cardboard counter.

When a Sabah reporter asked the child where he got the
'money' to sell, the boy replied "they told me to sell it,
so I'm selling it." He added that he sells fake 100 TL
notes for 10 TL.  Unaware that he was involved in a
crime, the boy nevertheless snuck away from his stand
when he was asked "who gave you this 'money' to sell?"
