Akif Ada, right, is betting on his lawyer now.
In Ankara, Akif Ada (39), who works in the advisory department of a
private hospital, clicked on a video message that came to his social
media account last month. The person in the video touted an illegal
betting website that promised big returns on bets.
So Ada sent a message to "İbrahim Eski", saying that he had bet for
years but never won. In reply, "İbrahim Eski" sent 'winning
coupons' to Ada and asked him to give him a call. Then, thinking
that he would be a big winner, Ada agreed to become a partner in
the coupon enterprise and deposited 500 TL to this end.
The next day Ada was informed that he had won 156,000 TL (about
$30,000) but would have to deposit 8,500 TL for handling and tax
fees (!). After sending the money, Ada was told to contact the social
media account of a woman named "Şeyma". But neither "Şeyma" nor
"İbrahim Eski" responded to Ada's messages so he came to the
conclusion that he had been hoodwinked. Ada then had lawyer
Onur Yusur Üregen file a criminal complaint with the public
prosecutor.
Keep to the right and you're bound to go wrong.
