Filiz hanım wanted a bigger slice of the pie than Mehmet bey
was willing to deliver.
In Çerkezköy, Tekirdağ, Filiz Kızıldere (26), the shift manager at a
pizza parlor, left the restaurant the evening before last with her
boyfriend Mehmet Sönmez (24), who is the parlor's pizza delivery
guy. As the two walked toward their home the discussion turned to
marriage.
But Mehmet bey was not keen about Filiz hanım's suggestion that the
couple get married, prompting Filiz hanım to take a gun from her
purse and shoot Mehmet bey twice (!). Filiz hanım then put the gun
to her head in a suicide attempt but police who arrived on the scene
pleaded with her for 1.5 hours to abandon the idea, saying "don't
do it! You're still young. You made a mistake, don't make a bigger
one. Your friend is doing well. Trust us."
Filiz hanım dropped the gun and was taken into custody. Mehmet
bey, though, died at the hospital.
Çerkezköy district is on Tekirdağ's border with Istanbul
province.
