He's quite the operator...
Istanbul police have uncovered one of the biggest health scandals
in recent years. Cüneyt Turan, who identified himself as a graduate
of the Gülhane Military Medical Academy and as a brain, nerve and
spinal cord surgeon, turned out to be merely a high school graduate (!)
and was taken into custody.
Turan has appeared on many TV health programs, claiming that
"I specialized in brain tumors at Hamburg University Medical
Faculty in Germany and in the USA, performing more than 10,000
successful brain tumor operations. My active years were 2006-
2009. After that, I only participated in operations as a visiting
professor. Up to now none of my patients have died."
Police determined that Turan gave talks at universities with the
title "Prof. Dr. Cüneyt Turan" and conducted seminars for students.
Without having had any medical training whatsoever, Turan provided
patients with erroneous information about human health and brain
tumors. He also charged people money to evaluate their ultrasound
results and medical analyses.
When asked how he could live with himself, Turan responded
"It's not easy."
