The creatures can get along but we can't! (Sigh...)
Meral Aslan (40), who lives in Bornova, Izmir, filed a complaint
against neighbor Mehmet G. who berated her for feeding street cats
and dogs. Aslan related that "one day I was about to give the cats
and dogs some food and he began screaming 'don't give them food
here!' and then he insulted me."
Aslan, noting that, according to Animal Protection Law 5199, it is
a crime to prevent the feeding of animals, related that she and Mehmet
G. went to arbitration to settle the matter. She proposed that she would
drop her complaint against Mehmet G. if he agreed to buy cat food (!).
Mehmet G. complied in the presence of arbitrator Mehmet Karanlık,
purchasing 6 15-kilogram packages of cat food and delivering them to
Aslan at a cost of 400 TL (about $80).
Izmir isn't quite Cat-stantinople, but it's pretty close.
