Not one to pass up a good deal.
Famous American billionaire Sheldon Gary Adelson, the casino and
hotel magnate, is one of those who has come to vacation spots like
Bodrum, Marmaris and Kuşadası lately to get cheap fuel. For his
luxury yacht he purchased 176,000 liters of fuel.
The 92-meter yacht "Queen Miri", owned by Adelson and his family,
anchored at the marina in Kuşadası in Aydın province and the
176,000 liters of fuel were brought to Kuşadası in tankers from
Izmir's Aliağa district. After filling up, the "Queen Miri" departed
for Sicily.
According to Forbes Magazine, Adelson is the 16th richest person
in the world, with a fortune amounting to $43.5 billion. He gained
additional notoriety by making a $25 million campaign contribution
to Donald Trump. On the "Queen Miri" there are two 'king's suites'
among the 18 cabins, which has all the features of a luxury yacht,
attended by a crew of 36.
Yachts like Adelman's are coming to Turkish seaports to take
advantage of fuel prices made all the more attractive by the lira's
fall against foreign currencies like the dollar, pound and euro.
In addition, by declaring that the yacht will not remain in Turkish
territorial waters, the yacht owners can avoid paying the ÖTV
(special consumption tax), as well. (!)
