Coincidentally, the front page of Vatan on 25 July showed the
building collapse ("Yağmurla Yıkıldı") next to a separate,
and evidently (!) unrelated story of Arda Turan vacationing in
Bodrum ('Turan Ailesi Tatilde').
The pictorial meaning of the word 'precarious'.
A building on Fuadiye Street in the Sütlüce neighborhood of
Beyoğlu, Istanbul, collapsed yesterday. Prior to the collapse, the
building's residents were evacuated, as were those in nearby
buildings. The collapsed building was built in 1994 without a
foundation and was considered 'kaçak' (illegal). Recent heavy
rains contributed to the building's underlying soil washing away,
and, along with the adjacent excavation for football star Ada
Turan's hotel project, the building's tragic fate was sealed.
The consequence of 'precarious'.
The adjacent construction site into which the building collapsed
is owned by football star Turan, who said in connection
with the incident "I have all the permissions and permits. This
(collapse) has nothing to do with me." (!)
Sütlüce is a Beyoğlu neighborhood situated on the Golden
Horn, upper left.
