But she looks so innocent...
A striking "psychoanalysis" has come from the Ministry of Religious
Affairs. In the Ministry's magazine, a writer asserts that Sigmund
Freud's theory of psychoanalysis, which "tries to show connections
between patients' mental processes and unconscious elements", is
used by capitalism to promote consumerism. In an article written
by Murat Kalıç, an expert in the Ministry's Senior Council, the claim
is made that 'Barbie dolls' are like "seismic bombs" directed toward
consumption by the public.
In his article, Kalıç favors opposing psychoanalysis and, instead,
focusing on Islam. He opines that "when the matter is looked at from
a moral standpoint, a community that wants women to expose all
her assets, in the name of stimulating the benefits of certain quarters,
continually causes bloody incidents to occur because of products that
serve the understanding of fashion trends. In this regard, the little
girls of yesterday who were given Barbies have become the obsessed
followers of today's fashion magazines."
